I am so tired I can barely think straight. I've gotten very little sleep the past two nights due to travel and work. This morning I was awake at 4 to prepare for work calls originally scheduled in Eastern Time, but now in Mountain Time, put them at 5 and 6:30am.
It was a decision that sounded good in theory but kind of sucks in execution. On paper, it was a good plan. I kept my commitments to my clients and I would be done by the time my friends and I left to go snowboarding for the day. It was perfect.
Except that plan assumed I had completed all the prep work for those calls before traveling. It also assumed I would get to bed early enough to be well-rested. Both of these assumptions proved false.
I woke up surprisingly and gratefully alert and energetic. The calls went well. I felt reasonably accomplished. Then I had a great day snowboarding at Banff Sunshine. My friends and I had so much fun that our typical number of runs on a mountain almost doubled.
All of a sudden, my body reminded me that I was not, in fact, well-rested; that I am not used to the long runs of the Canadian Rockies; and that my body is not used to the level of effort required to get through deep (to me) powder.
But man, was it fun.
So as I fight to stay awake until a semi-reasonable bed time, all I can think of is a quote I heard somewhere that says, "what a privilege it is to be tired from work you once begged the universe for".*
I am tired and grateful. Grateful that I was able to take a chance starting my own business. Grateful to friends and family who have encouraged me. Grateful I have friends to snowboard with. Grateful to be active and outdoors.
So, now, happy and grateful, it's finally late enough for me to go to sleep without worrying that I'll wake up at 3am. Sweet dreams.
*(if anyone knows the source, let me know. Google was unhelpful).
What do you think? How are you feeling right now?
